Human rights violations allegations :

UN a tool for global dominance

Now comes news. The UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon wants to appoint a committee of experts to advise him on the alleged human rights violations during the final phase on the humanitarian operations against the separatist terrorist outfit the LTTE or following the fall of the terror outfit.

Western countries

We in Sri Lanka are no longer surprised at the audacity of certain UN officials as well as those of some Western countries who perhaps believe that this is the age of the crusades or the inquisition and their role is that which the knights in armour performed to invade the people they called infidels, during those ignominious centuries. For, the United Nations officials seem to have forgotten the role of that august body and have taken on themselves the role of a self appointed latter day crusader.

Ban Ki Moon perhaps is implored by some of his officials like Pillay who has a vested interest in the country’s affairs, and others of the same ilk that the UN had a role to play in the affairs of an independent sovereign State that has all its mechanisms like the law, judiciary, commissions of inquiry into allegations of violation of its laws including human rights. Why Moon should wax or wane according to some unknown agenda about human rights in our country like some other officials of the West did while the abuse of human rights continued killing of thousands of civilians in Iraq, Afghanistan or forcibly occupied territory of Palestine, stinks to high heavens.

Human rights violations

At the very outset of the Iraq invasion by the US, British and other allies this story of a little child in Baghdad who lost both hands and both feet in an aerial bombardment came. When the completely decapitated child was to be taken to a hospital for treatment he had told news reporters “ I don’t want to go to any hospital. Ask them to give back my hands and legs.”

The dismal human rights violation record of the US Bush administration according to the latest findings cannot be mooned away. People like Moon who unfortunately were born in Asia should be reminded that over 100,000 civilians and military personnel were killed in Iraq after the notorious Bush invasion and a countless number of people have been mentally and physically injured.

Weapons of mass destruction

There were no weapons of mass destruction, no labs to develop biological weapons and Iraq did not acquire yellow clay uranium from Africa and it has nothing to do with Al Qaeda and did not train any Al Qaeda terrorists. Although Bush alleged that Iraq was attempting to make nuclear arms and it was a threat to world peace it was mere hogwash, to deceive the US public and the world to spend trillions of dollars to kill over a hundred thousand people among them a large number of civilians. Was the UN human rights shop closed for the past four years?

Where were UN human rights advocates and even today Ban Ki Moon and others do not even whimper about the mass scale human rights violations of the US in Iraq or Afghanistan.

Political parties

The UN is being kept by powerful Western nations as a tool to be used for their expediency and to be used for the advantage of global dominance. For instance there have been hundreds of UN resolutions over Palestine but Israel does not give a damn about them. In fact Israel scoffs at the UN resolutions as US does over the resolutions on Cuba. It should be a good exercise for the Moons and Pillays to start publishing the continuing human rights violations against the people of these countries as a special UN publication. At least their names would go down the history as people who had attempted to show the world what actually happens to their own resolutions!

Why was this sudden interest taken about the internal affairs, especially the political scenario of the country and rivalries or disagreements among various political parties and what the UN officials had the audacity to proclaim as ‘Accountability process.’ To whom should a country’s rulers or others be accountable other than to the people of that country. Or perhaps Moon is joking or is it a case of moonshine from Korea?

Military outfit

It is abundantly clear that the LTTE separatist terrorists’ military outfit though crushed in the North and East of the country had and has its sympathizers and members who are working in the West under cover, raising funds using threats or blackmail.

These terrorists have their own sympathizers in certain Western countries and Governments and they have found their way to the UN officialdom. Moon seems to be ignorant or was deliberately ignoring these facts while UN bodies are pretending not to see the atrocity and the magnitude of crimes against humanity by the powerful nations in Asia or elsewhere.

What these busybodies of the UN should be doing is to first put their house in order and at least publish a record of the number of several thousands of civilians in the Third World killed or violated by the powerful Western countries or by the pet rogue State in West Asia. As both these UN officials are Asians at least they owe it to their own people to do something sensible and justifiable.
