Turnover tops Rs 1 b

Indices at the Colombo Stock Exchange ended mixed with the ASPI closing lower while the MPI closing higher at the end of trading on Monday.

The broader ASPI index lost 1 point (-0.03 percent) to close at 3,844 while the more liquid MPI gained 7 points (+0.2 percent) to close at 4,440.

Turnover remained high above the Rs 1 billion mark with John Keells Holdings accounting for Rs 516 million in turnover as over 3 million shares were transacted.

JKH closed the day at Rs 169.00.

Hotel Services also saw considerable interest after its majority ownership was acquired by Hayleys.

The share closed up Rs 3.25 to Rs 26.25 on turnover of Rs 200 million.

Considerable interest was also seen in Dialog Telekom which saw over 14 million shares change hands with the share closing up 50 cents to end at Rs 7.25.

Interest in the shares of the country’s largest mobile operator generated Rs 104 million in business.

Total turnover for the day was Rs 1.2 billion.
