Munasinghe heads Boxing Referees Association
Forced out of retirement by desperate officials and strongly
requested to lead the Association again, the veteran boxing
administrator ex-Thurstan College Captain Donald Munasinghe, was elected
as the President, uncontested, at the Annual General Meeting of the
Boxing Referees and Judges Association, held on Saturday, February 20 at
the ABA Headquarters, Colombo 7.
He had gone into retirement at the end of year 2008 after being the
President for five years and being the Secretary for 20 years
previously, all consecutively and uncontested. All present referees and
judges have been trained by him, some achieving international and some
continental levels.
Herbert Embuldeniya an International Referees and Judges Commission
member was elected as Vice President, uncontested. He had been
instrumental in introducing the computer scoring system in judging to
Sri Lanka. He was also responsible for holding examinations to elevate
local judges to continental level in year 2001 and 2006.
Another former Thurstanite Group Captain Nishantha Dharmadasa was
elected as the Hony Secretary uncontested for the 7th year in
succession. He is an elite 3-star level International Referee and Judge,
ex-Royalist boxer Aubrey Peiris was elected as the Hony Treasurer for
the fourth time in succession, uncontested. Another former Royalist and
Chartered Accountant Priyantha Malavi was elected as Hony Auditor for
the eighth year in succession, uncontested. Further a former National
Champion T. J. Chandrasasa was re-elected as the Asst. Secretary. |
