U Chaminda Janaka Tissa Kuttiarachchi whose name was deleted from the
Moneragala UNP candidates list filed a Fundamental Rights petition
yesterday before the Supreme Court requesting that his name be entered
on the nomination list presented by the UNF for Moneragala District or
to disallow the whole list if his name could not be accommodated.
The Petitioner cited that 46 persons including the Elections
Commissioner and UNP General Secretary as respondents.
The petitioner said his name had been entered in the nomination list
of UNF candidates for the Moneragala District earlier.
However, when the nomination papers were handed over his name has
been deleted.
The General Secretary of the UNP Tissa Attanayake writing to the
Elections Commissioner had stated his signature had been forged to
remove petitioners name by applying 'tipex' on it.
In his petition Tissa Kuttiarachchi states he had put his signature
after his name was entered in the nomination paper but when the
nomination paper was handed over to the authorities his name had been
deleted and the signature of the Secretary General Tissa Attanayake had
been forged. Tissa Kuttiarachchi is the candidate who entered the UNF
nomination list for the Moneragala District. |
