Teen confesses to stealing best friend's mum's phone

Kurunegala records 26 phone thefts by students

A 16-year-old student who stole a valuable mobile phone belonging to his best friend's mother was arrested by Kurunegala police.

The suspect attending a leading Government school in Kurunegala used to visit his best friend's home frequently. When the inmates were away on a pilgrimage, the suspect had entered the house through a broken window and stolen the mobile phone.

The owner of the mobile phone had lodged a complaint with the Kurunegala police.

The suspect interrogated by police had confessed to the theft. Kurunegala senior Sub-Inspector D.M. Somaratne told the Daily News that many senior school students are in the habit of stealing valuable mobile phones and 26 such cases had been reported during the last six months from Kurunegala district alone.
