Thalassaemia: 572 out of 4,300 test positive in Panduwasnuwara

Out of 4,300 persons in the Panduwasnuwara area who were referred to blood test on Thalassaemia, 572 persons have been identified as Thalassaemia carriers, Provincial Health and Indigenous Medicine Minister Ashoka Wadigamangawa said.

He was speaking at a function held at the Lichchavi Hall of the Provincial Council to grant equipment valued at Rs. 4.3 million to the National Thalassaemia Centre.

The Minister said many projects are inaugurated but their functions come to a standstill when the officers attached to them are changed. “But this is not that type of a project. This project goes ahead without any interruption. Our target is to eradicate this disease from the country by 2020,” he added.
