St. Sebastian’s College into a new golden era

Blest are you Lord God of all creation - thanks to your Goodness....

Blessed be God, Blessed be God, Blessed be God for ever Amen

Thus, offertory hymn was sung at St. Sebastian’s College on the 19th January 2010.

In the hope of assisting, guiding and blessing its inmates to strengthen their spirituality through which they get closer to our Father, God Almighty as well as to enter into His Eternal Kingdom the portals of newly built house of worship located at he the heart of St. Sebastian’s College premises were opened by the Archbishop Most Revd, Dr. Malcolm Ranjith along with Archbishops of emeriti many other Bishops and Revd. Father Revd. Brothers and Revd. Nuns.

19th January 2010 turned yet another new era of long history of the college. On the previous loyalty day we as a family joined together in prayers to lay the foundation stone for the new chapel and administrative complex. Our shepherd, the Rector Revd. Fr. Bonnie Fernandupulle himself cannot believe that this mammoth task came to quick yet successful completion within the course of an academic year. However what we were assisted in our endeavors was the utmost yet unshakable faith we had in ‘our God Almighty’.

At the Eucharistic ceremony the archbishop stated that a school is there to mould children and this is the place which draws out and develop the hidden spirituality that the students inherit. After all, all of us are creation of God. God created us with certain amount of good in us. The little goodness we own should be multiplied in order to win life everlasting. He also went on to assert that this house of God should be the religious centre of school where everyone visits quite often to pray and keep in touch with God for the well-being of the whole community.

Very many eulogies emanated from the very core of every heart in praising the rector Rev. Fr. Bonnie Fernandopulle reverberated in the house of God. In fact he deserves the encomiums of the whole community for the pivotal role he played. If not for his consistent watchfulness, talented and skilful organization the outcome wouldn’t have reached the very peak as such. His magnanimity lies where he envisaged the future of very many generations of students due to shallow trends in this society should not be jeopardized. They must be brought to the close proximity of our Father’s Eternal Kingdom.

On the other hand the academic activities too have reached a very high success. A representative from the catholic education sector pronounced that St. Sebastian’s College has become the first in their GCE A/L results in 2009 from the Catholic school in the metropolis. The Under 19 basketball team and under 13 cricket team recently bagged the all island championships. Other extra-curricular activities too show the same success.

Thus St. Sebastian’s College continues its journey perhaps with a new facet to brighten the future of its young generation. This new House of God will obviously assist us in reaching our eternal destination at the same time it will provide an opportunity to communicate with the Lord.

Last of all but not in the minimum, our heartfelt gratitude is due to all donors for their generosity and every individual who contributed in term of their thoughts, words and deeds to make this project successful. May Almighty God shower His blessings on their families and protect them.
