Surrender order to Army deserters

The Government has given the opportunity for all Army deserters to surrender today at their nearest Army camp. Military spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara said the Government has decided to grant a last opportunity to the Army deserters to surrender to their respective regiment or to the nearest Army camp on Independence Day.

“Army officers who deserted from their duties also can use this opportunity,” he told the Daily News.

He reiterated that it is not an amnesty but an opportunity for the Army deserters. Those who fail to surrender will be subject to arrest. “The Government will begin to track down and arrest deserters from February 5,” the Brigadier added.
