All should support President - ASP Liyanage

Irrespective of political differences all should support President Mahinda Rajapaksa, said Sri Lanka Labour Party’s A.S.P. Liyanage at a press conference held in Colombo on Tuesday. He said that although his party contested the Presidential Election, it supported the President.

It has become necessary now to support President Mahinda Rajapaksa for the development of the country, he added.

Liyanage said that Sri Lankan politicians should follow the example of John Kerry, who conceded defeat at the US Presidential Elections and then supported George W. Bush for the sake of the country’s development.

If such support is given, President Mahinda Rajapaksa could develop Sri Lanka as the most vibrant country in Asia within five years, Liyanage added. He said his party came third in Colombo District and seventh islandwide at the Presidential Election mustering 14,200 votes.

He further said that President Mahinda Rajapaksa should have got more votes as he was able to eliminate terrorism in the country.

Liyanage pointed out that SLLP would field candidates in all electorates including the North and the East at the forthcoming Parliamentary elections.

SLLP President Philip Tewrrance, Secretary Chandira Verajan and Co-ordinating Secretary S.V.C. Alexander also addressed.
