Musical entertainment
The musical entertainment titled 'Aadhi Sisu Waaluka' which marks the
reunion and get-together of the old boys of Pasyala Maha Vidyalaya will
be held on Sunday, February 07 at 3.00 p.m. at the college auditorium.
All the old boys of the school are invited for the occasion.
Memorial lecture
The 42nd annual memorial lecture to commemorate the late Sir Baron
Jayatilaka will be held at the Colombo YMBA Hall Borella on Saturday
February 13.
Sir Baron, former leader of the State Council and Home Affairs
Minister as well as the first president of the Colombo YMBA was also a
Buddhist and oriental scholar.
The commemoration lecture will be delivered by Dr. Kanishka
Karunaratne, consultant gynaecologist, Maharagama Cancer Hospital at
3.30. p.m.
The welcome address will be delivered by the president YMBA and the
lecturer will be introduced by Rajah Kuruppu Vice President. Dr.
Karunaratne is a fellow of the Royal College of Gynaecologists and
Obstetricians and also has a post graduate diploma in Buddhism from the
University of Kelaniya.
Insurance for artistes
An insurance scheme for performing artistes has been initiated by
Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickremanayaka.
The scheme known as 'Sethara" is already functioning and is funded by
voluntary donations channelled through the Prime Minister's Office.
"Performing artistes are exponents of a nation's cultural heritage.
We owe them a debt of gratitude. Not all artistes are rich; many need
assistance," a spokesman for the Prime Minister's Office said.
A variety show titled 'Ran Gee Ranga' will be staged at the
Elphinstone Theatre, Maradana on February 13 at 6.30 pm to raise
additional funds for the Insurance Scheme.
About thirty five vocalists, dancers, stage actors and other artistes
are listed to perform.
Help trace Saamanera
Ven Kotagama Sumanatissa Thera (13), brother of JPR Bandara of
Malagawatta, Rambukkana is missing since January 4, 2010.
He is fair in complexion and 4' 1/2 in hight.
Police are seeking public assistance to trace him. Any information

Women clubbed to death

Three women from the same family were clubbed to death by a man in
Nelumkulama, Anuradhapura yesterday early morning. Another man injured
in the incident was admitted to hospital.
Police spokesman SSP I.M. Karunaratna said a triple murder was
reported from the Nelumkulama area at around 1.00am. "A man clubbed to
death his wife, mother-in-law and her sister while they were asleep", he
added.
