St. Andew’s/HNB Pot Black tourney on Dec.18-19

The annual Jetwing St. Andrew’s/Hatton National Bank Six Ball Pot Black Snooker Tournament organized for the second successive year will be held on December 18 and 19.

Developing on the success of last year’s tournament, organizers have selected two days to conduct this event with all blessings of the Billiards and Snooker Association of Sri Lanka, the governing body for the sport.

St. Andrew’s possess probably one of the few historic Billiards and Snooker Tables in Sri Lanka that is still well maintained.

Legendary and mythical stories surround this Billiards and Snooker table of St. Andrew’s, which probably dates back to the late 1800s when the property was run as a Scots Club by a German National named Humbert. A this historic table was built by C. Larzurrus and Company in India, a well renowned company that dealt with Billiards and Snooker Tables, Grand Pianos, etc, during the colonial period. It is impressive to see that the original condition of the table has been preserved including the ivory dots that surround the table.

The tournament is expected to start at 9.30 a.m. on the first day and finals to take place on the following day at 5.00pm. The Awards Ceremony will be followed by a Cocktail.

We are delighted that Hatton National Bank has come forward to be the main sponsor for the event yet again.

Their interest in developing this historic game in Nuwara Eliya is greatly admired and without their support this would have not been possible. We look forward to exceeding last year’s entries of 75 and making this event a truly National event, said Renuke Koswatte, Manger of Jetwing St. Andrew’s Hotel.

Steps are underway to take this event internationally in the future which is expected to be a boost for the Snooker game in Nuwara Eliya.

Entry forms can be collected from Jetwing St. Andrew’s or at the Billiards & Snooker Association should reach the Billiards & Snooker Association of Sri Lanka Head Quarters at Reid Avenue, Colombo 07 before December 5 and the draw is scheduled to be conducted on December 7 at 4.00 p.m. The entry fee is Rs. 650.
