Two suspected vehicle hijackers arrested

Two suspects involved in hijacking vehicles from different parts of the country and selling them at reduced costs was arrested by the anti-corruption unit of the Matara police along with the stolen vehicles.

Three others had escaped during the arrest on Monday night. Police had thrown a cordon around Beach Road in Matara on a tip-off that the suspects were heading in the direction.

Upon seeing the police they had attempted to dash off in their vehicles when the police opened fire at the tyres of the vehicles bringing them to a standstill.
