Lanka Star Awards Ceremony:
Print USA bags President's Award
Print USA (Pvt) Ltd., a veteran printing and packaging company in Sri
Lanka, won two Gold, one Silver and two Bronze Awards in the Consumer
Packaging Category and was also adjudged the winner of the prestigious
President's Award in the Consumer Packaging Category at the "Lanka Star"
Annual Printing and Packaging Awards Ceremony recently. The Lanka Star
Printing and Packaging Ceremony is organized annually by the Sri Lanka
Institute of Packaging to identify and recognize the key players in Sri
Lanka's Printing and Packaging Industry comprising companies engaged in
the corrugated industry, offset printing industry, flexible packaging
industry, plastic industry and wooden container industry etc.
"It has been proved that off-set printed packaging is the ideal
marketing tool for successfully marketing value added Sri Lankan
produce" said Sathis Abeywickrama, Print USA (Pvt) Ltd. Chairman and
Managing Director.
Abeywickrama has over 30 years experience in off-set printing. Print
USA is a member of the USA Group of Companies comprising Trade USA (Pvt)
Ltd. which trades in printers' requisites, in-flight requisites,
Gurubeula Estate - an eco friendly agriculture project manufacturing the
Gurubeula brand of dairy products, and Flexiprint which manufactures tea
bags, tags and envelopes for the tea export industry.
Print USA started its operations in 1989 as a printing company
specializing in the printing needs of Sri Lankan exporters of value
added products. Print USA has since diversified into providing printing
and packaging solutions to the tea, rubber and pharmaceuticals
industries.

ILM to promote TPM in Sri Lanka with JIPM
A team from the pioneers and world leaders of Total Productive
Maintenance (TPM) the Japan Institute of Plant Maintenance (JIPM) was in
Sri Lanka for a two-day workshop hosted by the Institute of Lean
Management (ILM) recently at the Galadari Hotel.
The JIPM was represented by Takashi Sagae a Plant Maintenance
Excellent Engineer and a consultant on TPM having years of experience in
implementing TPM in many industries around the globe. He also acts as an
advisor to ILM on TPM and lean Management.
The very effective and focused workshop was well attended and was
represented by both the government and leading private sector
establishments covering the apparel, manufacturing, banking and
telecommunication sectors.
JIPM consultant Takashi Sagae said that the ILM has taken a timely
decision to promote TPM in Sri Lanka to protect the national industries
under present circumstances through its consultancy services.
He said that the industries are further benefited by the fact that
the CEO, ILM is also a JIPM accredited TPM instructor, having many years
of direct exposure to TPM certified companies.
Sagae also said that the JIPM approach in implementing TPM is very
systematic and delivers incremental and sustainable results with minimum
investment and that JIPM is the only TPM certification body and has
certified many organizations across the world.
The host, The institute of Lean Management was established to
strengthen the industrial, plantation and service sectors in Sri Lanka
by improving business processes and development of human resources in
order to improve productivity, quality, cost, delivery, safety and
morale. ILM introduces the way to do more and more with less and less
human effort, less equipment, less time and less space while coming
closer to providing customers with exactly what they need and transforms
any operation in any sector opening up new strategic opportunities. It
is the only professional body in Sri Lanka offering consultancy in TPM
and Lean Management.
The ILM, CEO, Thilak Pushpakumara said that the Japanese Management
techniques such as 5S, Kaizen, TPM and Toyota Production System is very
prominent in ILM approach where 5S is the foundation and TPM is the
corporate strategy to challenge Just-In-Time by improving people and
equipment.
ODEL to open 10th outlet in Moratuwa
ODEL will open its 10th outlet in Moratuwa by mid December.
