Royal-Thomian cagers clash for D.S. Senanayake Trophy

The Royalists will meet the Thomian cagers at S.Thomas’ College, Mt. Lavinia on Wednesday the November 25, at 4.45 p.m, to engage themselves in an intriguing battle for the 7th Annual Royal-Thomian Basketball encounter. for the D.S. Senanayake trophy.

Last Year, even though the Royalists displayed a scintillating performance at the Royal courts, the Thomians managed to squeeze through to win the encounter 40-35. Since its inception in 2003 the Thomian lads have managed to emerge victorious in all the encounters, however the Royalists have high spirits and believe that they will be seventh-time lucky to break the jinx.

This year both teams have taken the game to new heights and have reached new milestones in their National league. S. Thomas’ have played exceptionally well in the national league and have achieved the runner’s-up title, also they have won the title of champions at a five a side invitational basketball tournament.

The Royalists too have performed well by going through to the quarter-finals of the national league this year, and also becoming the runners-up of the above mentioned five a side tourney.

Whilst both teams have played well during their respective seasons it is now upto the members of each team to show their determination and valour by bringing the trophy back to their alma mater, which will definitely be the highest honour for any Royalist or Thomian cager.
