Gambhir and Sehwag score centuries as India pile up 417/2

Opener Gautam Gambhir top-scored with 167 as India piled up a record 417-2 on the first day of the second cricket Test against Sri Lanka here on Tuesday. Gambhir shared 233 runs for the opening wicket with Virender Sehwag (131) and another 137 for the second with Rahul Dravid to help the home side score their highest Test total in a day’s play.

Rugby legend Serevi to coach PNG at Carlton Sri Lanka Sevens

Fijian rugby legend Waisale Serevi will be coaching the Papua New Guinea team which will be taking part in the international tournament of the Carlton Sri Lanka Sevens 2009 which will be worked off at the Sugathadasa Stadium from November 27 to 29, 2009.

Sampath Bank in 82-69 win

Sampath Bank defeated Akbar Brothers Ltd. by 82 points to 69 in a Delmege Super League ‘A’ Division Basketball game played at Otter’s Aquatic Club court. Akbar Brothers in the lead by 40 points to 38 at half time. Mithila Abeysekera was the top scorer for the winning team with 24 points. Chameera Ratnayake bagged 19 and Werantha Bastians got 12 points while Sanketha Jayaratne (25 points) and Thushara Jayaratne (22 points) made valuable contributions for Akbar Brothers team.
