Rugby legend Serevi to coach PNG at Carlton Sri Lanka Sevens

Fijian rugby legend Waisale Serevi will be coaching the Papua New
Guinea team which will be taking part in the international tournament of
the Carlton Sri Lanka Sevens 2009 which will be worked off at the
Sugathadasa Stadium from November 27 to 29, 2009.
Serevi the highest points scorer in rugby sevens history thrilled
rugby fans with his daring runs on the rugby field and is confident that
he will be able to motivate the Papua New Guineans to give of their best
in the tournament in his new role as coach of PNG.
The Papua New Guineans will scrum down with New Zealand legends,
Australian Legends, Fiji Digicel, South African Vipers and Western Samoa
Barbarians in the international tournament which should provide top
class rugby as most of the teams will field some of their top national
players.
The tournament which is conducted in three segments - International,
Asian and Schools, is being organised by the Tharunyata Hetak
Organisation in collaboration with the Interim Committee of the Sri
Lanka Rugby Football Union. Sri Lanka which has been drawn into pool ‘D’
will confront Pakistan in their first match on November 28 at 2 p.m. and
will then confront the mighty South Koreans in their next match at 5
p.m. on the same day.
The winners of Group ‘D’ are likely to meet the strong Kazakhstan who
are likely to end up in second place in pool ‘A’ in the quarter-finals
while Asian heavyweights Japan who are tipped to emerge winners of pool
‘A’ will take on the runners up of pool ‘D’.
The Asian Sevens:
Pool A - Japan, Kazakhstan, Iran.
Pool B - Chinese Taipei, Thailand, Jordan.
Pool C - China, Malaysia, Brunei.
Pool D - South Africa, Sri Lanka, Pakistan.
The schools tournament:
Pool A - Royal, St. Anne’s, Uva Province.
Pool B - St. Anthony’s, Maliyadeva, Sabaragamuva Province.
Pool C - Isipatana, Vidyartha, Nalanda.
Pool D - St. Peter’s, Prince of Wales, Carey.
The schools tournament will kick off on November 27 with the game
between league champions Royal College and Uva Province at 11 a.m.
