SSP’s murder: Key suspect nabbed

A key suspect in the abduction and murder of Senior Superintendent of Police Charles Wijewardena was arrested by police on Monday at Chunnakam, Jaffna, police spokesman SSP I.M.Karunaratne said yesterday.

Wijewardena was abducted by the LTTE while on duty at Inuvil, Jaffna on August 4, 2005.

He was tortured before being murdered.

It was reported that he was trying to settle a dispute and was unarmed when he was abducted by the terrorists. A special police intelligence team arrested the suspect at a hideout in Chunnakam.
