He said so at a ceremony held at the Kandy District Secretariat yesterday to mark the launching of Prasadi marketing program for Central Province State Institutions introduced by Lake House.

Ekanayaka said it was the duty of media persons to take the message of development and welfare programs launched by the Government to the people. This duty was being performed well by media persons in the Central Province.

It was also the duty of the media to highlight the burning problems of the people.

He said people in the Central Province have come forward to ensure a massive mandate to President Mahinda Rajapaksa at the Presidential election. It is a duty by the future generation to re-elect the President to help him carry out people friendly programs to completion.

Provincial Minister Nimal Piyatissa said he started his career as a Lake House provincial correspondent and today it has enabled him to become a Provincial Minister.

Lake House General Manager Abhaya Amaradasa said Lake House published a large number of newspapers and periodicals with the motive of producing a knowledge based society which will be an asset to the nation.

It has planned to provide a new orientation to its publications to improve reader tastes.

Under the Prasadi program newspapers and periodicals would be sold to State institutions at a reasonable price.

Lake House Director (Administration and Operations) Upul Dissanayake said the objective of Lake House is to improve subscriber tastes.

Marketing and Operations Manager Asoka Wijesekara and Marketing Manager (Central Province) Rohitha Jayasinghe also spoke.
