Greenpeace slams rich nations on climate
Spain: The international Greenpeace environmental organization
criticized wealthy countries on Saturday for continued delaying of their
commitment to reducing the effects of climate change on the planet.
The environmental group slammed the industrialized nations' stance,
led by the United States, postponing decision making in reference to
climate change during the Barcelona conference, which closed Friday
after five days of deliberations.
In the meeting, prior to the December Summit to be held in
Copenhagen, Denmark, poor countries demanded that developed nations
reduce at least 40 percent of their emissions of greenhouse effect
gases.
Greenpeace denounced that wealthy countries remained impassive, faced
with the deamand by representatives of the so-called Third World, which
is the overwhelming majority of the world population and has alerted on
the climate catastrophe that draws near.
The environmental group condemned the United States, considered the
greatest pollutant country in History, the Government of which has not
been willing to endorse the integrity of an accord legally binding on
the mentioned issue that can not be put off.
