Bank robbery suspect arrested

A person alleged to have links with underworld and involved in many crimes was arrested by Mt.Lavinia Crime Division on Saturday in Soyza Road, Moratuwa. Police spokesman Senior DIG Nimal Mediwake said Duminda alias Army Manju (36) was nabbed by a special team from Mt. Lavinia Police at around 6.00pm on Saturday.

Army Manju was wanted for many crimes including a bank breaking. "He was a well-known criminal in the area and wanted in connection with an attempt to rob Bank of Ceylon, Piliyandala branch.

He was alleged to have broken the bank using a gas cylinder.

However, he was unable to rob money due to the interference of the bank security guard", he added.

On a tip-off police arrested him in Moratuwa.

The Mt. Lavinia Crime Division is investigating to nab other suspects involved in the bank robbery.
