More rains expected

More rain is expected in the Northern, North Eastern, Uva and North Central Provinces and Hambantota and Matara districts in the next few days while the rest of the country could expect scattered thunder showers in the afternoon and night. The South Western coastal areas would experience showers in the early hours of the morning, Meteorologist Chaminda Silva told the Daily News yesterday.

There will be strong gusty winds in some areas accompanied by rain where heavy cloud formations develop. There was a depression over the Arabian sea and the rainy weather was caused by it. But the depression had moved towards India and its impact was reduced, he said.

Mihintale recorded the highest rainfall of 106.6 millimetres and the Kukuleganga area received 70 millimetres of rain during the last 24 hours, he added.
