Sri Lanka gets SAWM REB presidency

Sharmini Boyle, Editor-in-Chief of Young Asia Television (YATV) and President of the South Asian Women in Media (SAWM) Sri Lanka chapter was unanimously elected founder President of the SAWM Region Executive Body (REB) in Lahore, Pakistan, recently. SAWM is the first South Asian all-women media association and the election was held at the first regional conference attended by more than 150 women journalists and media activists from the SAARC countries including India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Maldives, Afghanistan and Bhutan.

A 14-member delegation of senior women journalists from the print and electronic media representing the private and State sectors attended the Lahore conference held on October 10 and 11, under the theme 'Women in Media - Challenges, Opportunities and Partnership'.
