'Reshape your business':
CIMA Technical Symposium
CIMA Profile and Communication thought leadership specialist Gillian
Lees will deliver the keynote address on 'Enterprise governance -
Restoring boardroom leadership' at the CIMA Technical Symposium 2009 at
the Cinnamon Lakeside Hotel on December 3.
Gillian has over a decade of experience in working on the corporate
governance issue and was heavily involved in the IFAC/ CIMA Enterprise
Governance project. She played an instrumental role in developing the
CIMA Strategic Scorecard which promotes boards focussing on both aspects
of conformance and performance. She has written articles in numerous
publications and has presented widely on enterprise governance and the
scorecard.
She is currently developing CIMA's thinking on how organizational
boards can engage in strategy more effectively, particularly in the
context of a downturn.
The recent turbulent conditions in the world's economic and financial
markets have thrown the spotlight on corporate governance again.
While there are many contributory factors to the crisis, one key
theme that surface time and time again is the ability of boards or
equivalent governing bodies of organisations to oversee strategy and
risk effectively.
In this backdrop Gillian's keynote will focus on how board's
effectiveness can be enhanced, in the areas of overseeing strategy and
risks.
She will address the behavioural and structural issues underpinning
board effectiveness. She will provide thought leadership on how
organisations can create a culture in which strategy proposals are
challenged constructively and effectively, and what approaches can be
taken by boards to govern risk throughout the business cycle.
'Reshape your business' is the topical theme of this year's
symposium; and will focus on business critical areas of enterprise
governance, strategic sustainability, shareholder value creation,
developing business intelligence, strategic execution, and performance
measurement delivered by an eminent line of local and foreign speakers. |
