More prominence for Sri Lanka:
CCC to participate in India Economic Summit 2009
The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce (CCC) Sri Lanka will be given
prominence by the World Economic Forum at the India Economic Summit 2009
which begins today in New Delhi.
CCC Chief Executive Officer Haren Malwatta told Daily News Business
that the World Economic Forum has allocated a session for Sri Lanka
within the main conference agenda from 11.45 am to 13.15 pm today to
discuss “The next chapter of Sri Lanka’s growth’.
It would be a great opportunity to promote and attract attention
towards Sri Lanka which in turn would lead to investment inquiries. He
said that on earlier occasions Sri Lanka got only a parallel lunch on
session to speak but this year Sri Lanka has been given promienence for
investment because the conflict is over.
The delegation of senior businessmen headed by CCC Chairman Dr Anura
Ekanayake and Public Administration and Home Affairs Minister Dr Sarath
Amunugama representing the Government sector arrived in India yesterday.
The Sri Lanka session will be chaired by Chief Mentor of the
Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Tarun Das, Minister Amunugama,
India’s Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee and CCC Chairman Dr Anura
Ekanayake will be the panellists.
The India Economic Summit 2009 organized by the Confederation of
Indian Industry and the World Economic Forum following India’s national
election in May will be a unique and historic opportunity for key
domestic and international stakeholders to discuss the economic,
political and social priorities for India to sustain high growth and
remain competitive despite the global economic crisis and new challenges
to the region’s security, Malwatta said.
The summit is a unique opportunity to meet and network with top
global CEOs and social and political leaders to discuss new
opportunities and strengthen existing partnerships.
