RCGC golfers dominate

Both men and ladies from the Royal Colombo Golf Club showed their supremacy beating golfers of Nuwara Eliya Golf Club in all the events including the Burdett trophy, Puffing Cup, Anniversary Trophy and senior events.

The Burdett Trophy was won by the RCGC beating Nuwara Eliya by 6 1/2 to 5 1/2 for the second connective year.

This year's tournament attracted a record number of 150 players. Nuwara Eliya was in a festive mood with golfing stars. All hotels and holiday bungalows were full of holiday crowds and golfers.

The Nuwara Eliya golfers were confident at the start due to the inclement weather conditions as they were used to rains and cloudy weather, but such situations did not deter the Colombo players.

In the afternoon with the weather clearing a bit the Colombo players were more comfortable and dominated the golfing.

Better and formidable players like M. Balendran who is the captain of the club could not match Bandula Weerasinghe of Royal Colombo Golf Club.

The Trustee of the Nuwara Eliya Golf Club Clive Tissera gave away the prizes.

The Sri Lanka Amateur Golf Tournament will be played from Nov. 11 to 15 at Nuwara Eliya where golfers from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka will participate.

All credit should go to NEGC staff and Caddy master Suni Shantha for the excellent arrangements made.
