Today is World Mental Health Day
World Mental Health Day falls today. The National Mental Health
Institute, Angoda has organized several programs to mark this day,
Angoda Mental Health Institute Director Dr. Jayan Mendis said.
He said a walk organized to mark World Mental Health Day will
commence from the National Art Gallery at 8.30 am and reach Lipton
Circle and return to the Art Gallery.
A special exhibition of handicrafts by inmates of mental institute
will be held at the National Art Gallery from October 10 to 12.
The inauguration of the exhibition will take place at the same venue
on October 10 with the presence of Healthcare and Nutrition Ministry
Secretary Dr. Athula Kahandaliyanage.
According to the WHO, World Mental Health Day on October 10 raises
public awareness about mental health issues. The day promotes more open
discussion of illnesses, and investments in prevention and treatment
services.
Mental, neurological and behavioural disorders are common in all
countries, causing immense suffering and staggering economic and social
