The Psycho Social Intervention and Counselling Unit of the Education
Ministry has embarked on a leadership promotion program in the
Anuradhapura district.
Arrangements are being made for conducting two student leadership
training camps from October 19 to 21 and October 24 to 26 at the
Educational Resource Centre in Anuradhapura. Two hundred female and male
senior students representating 20 schools in the Anuradhapura district
will participate at these two residential training camps.
Additional Provincial Education Director and Provincial Resources
Centre Manager Laxman Dikkumbura said, students who are deemed to be
unruly and mentally depressed as identified by the school guidance
teachers and the psycho social in service advisors would be given
priority in selecting students for the leadership training camp.
"We are deviating from the traditional pattern of referring school
prefects and monitors for leadership and personality development
training programs.
The backward type students should be encouraged to take up challenges
and shape up as brilliant student members in their schools for others to
follow them," Dikkumbura said. The participants will be trained in
leadership personality development, how to face day-to-day challenges at
the school and in society resolving conflicts, skills development etc.
It has been decided to continue the training program covering 750
schools in the North Central Province.
The next training camp is scheduled to be held in Polonnaruwa
shortly. |
