Train service disrupted

Train service was disrupted yesterday when some railway employees launched a lightning strike from 7.30 a.m to 2.30 p.m. over a salary dispute.

Long distance trains like Udarata Menike, Kandy express train and Batticaloa express trains were delayed due to the sudden strike, Train Controller (Arrangement) Nihal Fernando told the Daily News yesterday.

He said shunter drivers, points men and driver assistants were involved in this strike but it was only for a short period and the train services resumed in the evening.

Commuters traveling in the Ruhunu Kumari Express train said the train did not come at the scheduled time but a little later than the usual time. Most other trains also plyed late.
