Ambassador of Sri Lanka in Indonesia Major General (Retd) Nanda
Mallawaarachchi VSV met with Indonesian Military Chief (TNI) G.M. Djoko
Santoso on October 6 and discussed issues related to bilateral military
cooperation. G.M. Santoso is the Chief of Armed Forces of Indonesia who
is also the Senior Armed Services officer.
Bilateral Military Cooperation has reached new heights consequent to
the visit of Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa early this year. Lt.
Gen Sjafrie Sjamsudin who is the Secretary General of Defence of
Indonesia is due to visit Sri Lanka on October 12 on the invitation of
Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa along with other defence officials
and representatives from Indonesian Defence Production Industries. A Sri
Lankan Naval officer is following a Naval Staff Course at the Indonesian
Naval Staff College in Jakarta and General Djoko Santoso has assured the
Ambassador at the meeting to favourably consider opening more vacancies
for Sri Lankan trainers in Indonesian Armed Services and Police Training
Institutions.
The visiting Defence delegation is due to discuss the Memorandum of
Understanding on Defence Cooperation and other bilateral Defence matters
with the Defence Secretary. |
