Ex Principal granted bail

Colombo High Court yesterday granted bail to former principal of Mahamaya Balika Vidyalaya, Nugegoda who was indicted with accepting a bribe in December 2007 to admit a child to the school.

High Court Judge Sunil Perera granted cash bail of Rs 50,000 and two sureties worth Rs 250,000 each to principal A.L. Sriyani Chandrika of Pannipitiya. Sumana Galagedara was bailed out on the same bail conditions.

Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption filed indictment before the Colombo High Court against Sriyani Chandrika for demanding and accepting a gratification of Rs 15,000 in December 2007 to admit a child of woman soldier Samanthi Deepika Gamage to the school.

Sumana Galagedara of Thalgahawatta Mawatha, Boralesgamuwa was also charged in the same indictment for aiding and abetting the principal to accept the bribe.
