Supplementary Account or Budget :

Cabinet to decide

Deputy Finance Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya stated that the Cabinet would decide on Tuesday as to what will be presented before Parliament, a budget for 2010 or a Supplementary Account for the first few months in view of elections to be held after April next year.

The Deputy Minister stated that there were a considerable number of suggestions from the members of the Government for a delay in the budget since a new budget had to be presented immediately after a general election.

So that it was fruitful to make allocations through a supplementary Account since it was not practical to present a budget for 2010 if a general election is scheduled to be held after April 2010.

Minister Siyambalapitiya further said that money was allocated for few months in 2001 through a Supplementary Account instead of a budget.
