Dehiwala flyover ready to take off

Work on the flyover in Dehiwala is nearing completion. It will be
commissioned at the beginning of November to ease the heavy traffic
congestion during rush hours on the Galle road at the Dehiwala junction.

A Road Development Authority spokesman told the Daily News that the
project would provide easy access to thousands of vehicles.
These vehicles will be plying across the busy towns of Colombo,
Dehiwala, Mount Lavinia, Ratmalana, Moratuwa and Panadura as well as
long distance commuters who travel to Galle, Matara and Kataragama from
Colombo. It will also ease traffic congestion during school hours and
office hours at the Dehiwala junction.
The total cost of the project is Rs.920 million which has been funded
by the UK Government. The two-lane flyover will be 337 metres in length
and 7.35 metres in width. Construction of the flyover commenced on July
7 this year.
Mabey and Johnson Company of the UK and Access Engineering Ltd in Sri
Lanka is handling the construction work which is being supervised by the
Road Development Authority. |
