Police training vital - IGP

The training course for Police personnel in respect of conducting
proceedings before courts is of paramount importance to trace the
suspects who had committed crimes and evading arrest, said Inspector
General of Police Jayantha Wickremaratne at a conference held at the
IGP's Conference hall.
IGP Jayantha Wickremaratne distributed certificates to over 35 police
personnel from the Western Province who had successfully completed the
Prosecution Certificate Course conducted by the Crime Division of the
Police Department in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Police Academy at
the Crime Division (Training) at 'Vilasitha Nivasa' Colombo.
The IGP paid tribute to officers who had assisted in conducting
classes during the training course. A special thanks was handed to the
Crime Division Director Senior SP M.K.D.W. Amarasinghe who was
responsible for organising the course for the Police personnel for the
last two weeks.
This training course is important to the Police personnel who are
conducting cases before courts of law.
This course will also educate police personnel to gain knowledge
about the court proceedings and how to meet arguments with senior
lawyers. The IGP emphasised that the police personnel had been educated
on three sections of crimes how to conduct proceedings before courts.
The three sections are, organised crimes, hard drugs trafficking and
illicit liquor. The Police personnel from Dehiwela, Kohuwela,
Piliyandala, Moratuwa, Moragasmulla, Kahathuduwa, Mount Lavinia,
Welikada, Padukka, Wellampitiya, Maharagama, Borlesgamuwa, Mulleriyawa,
Hanwella, Navagamuwa, Athurugiriya, Mirihana, Thalangama and Homagama
received certificates from the IGP, Senior DIGs Mahinda Balasuriya,
Nimal Mediwaka, DIGs Asoka Wijetilleke, Anura Senanayake, Senior SPs,
M.K.D.W. Amarasinghe and Senior SP M. R. Latiff.
The course was conducted on the guidelines of relevance of facts
collected at the primary police investigations. 'B' report institution
of prosecution and charge. Relevancy of Audio-Video recordings and
computer evidence. Issuing of a copy of first complainant.
Identification parade and evidence of accomplice. Intellectual Property
Act No.36 of 2003 and its relevancy and examination of witnesses and
cross examination.
