Muthuhettigama re-remanded

UPFA Galle district candidate Nishantha Muthuhettigama was re-remanded by Galle Magistrate Chamara Tennakoon yesterday when he was produced before him from the remand prison by the Galle Police.

ASP Nimalasiri Perera prosecuted Muthuhettigama under Section 146 of the Criminal Code with the charges of unlawful assembly, breach of election rules, assault on an individual and organizing illegal parades in the city streets while a group of officers of the CID of Colombo led by SP D. Gajasinha who carried out fresh and separate investigations, charged him for defamatory statements allegedly made at a press conference on September 19.

He was further charged for the contravention of the Bail Act while he was exercising the bail granted to him by the Magistrate the previous week. Lawyers of the Galle Bar appeared for the candidate.
