Schools rugby fixtures

Following are the Rugby fixtures to be worked off by the Sri Lanka Schools Rugby/Football Union for the third term 2009.

The Under 14 Division I All Island Rugby Tournament to be held on the 19 and 20 Sept. 2009 at the Royal College Rugby Complex, Colombo.

While the Under 18 All Island Division II Rugby tournament to be held on 26 and 27, Sept.

2009 at the Bandarawela MC grounds and the under 16 Division II Milo Trophy Rugby tournament to be held on 3 and 4 October, 2009 at Kurunegala Welagedara stadium.


Petes u-15 l/o Div. I champs

St. Peter's College lifted the inter-school under 15 division one limited overs title when they defeated Royal College by four wickets in the final encounter worked off at the CCC grounds in Maitland Crescent yesterday.

Royal College batting first were dismissed for 139 runs in 43.5 overs with left arm spinner Julian de Silva capturing five wickets for 22. In reply the Peterites reached their target in the 46th over with Jason Buultjens stroking an unbeaten half century.

Royal: 139 in 43.5 overs (W. Liyanage 32, G. Kalhara 20 n.o, J. de Silva 5 for 22, D. Hemantha 2 for 32).

St. Peter's: 140 for 6 in 45.1 overs (J. Buultjens 67 n.o, R. Liyanarachchi 23, H. Samarasinghe 2 for 29, P. Aluthge 2 for 32). - C.D.


All Greens BC victorious

All Greens BC beat Vaasians BC by 98 points to 87 in a Carlton Cup Open Basketball Tournament 'B' Division match played at Police Courts.

All Greens were in the lead 56 points to 39 at half time. Manaram Bandara was the highest scorer for the winning team with 27 points. Johan Danushka 19 and Chalitha Gihan 14 also scored. Dilshan Malith collected 27 points for Vaasians. Gayan Randhika got 19 points.

The inaugural Carlton Cup Open Basketball Tournament organized by Carlton Sports Club and Tharunyata Hetak Organization was sponsored by Sri Lanka Telecom and Solex.


Gampaha District Relay Carnival

The Relay Carnival 2009 organized by the Gampaha District Athletic Association will see participants from 30 schools competing in the Under 12, 14, 16, 18 and 20 age categories from September 18 to 19 from 8.30 a.m at De Mazenod College ground, Kandana.

Proceedings on the opening day will be under the patronage of Rev. Bro. Bertram Perera, Principal of De Mazenod College and Lalith Nishantha Abeywickrama, Chairman, Ja-ela Pradeshiya Sabha. AW


Entries called for M'tile Meet

The Mercantile Athletic Association organized Athletic Championships 2009 is scheduled for 30 Oct. and 01 Nov. at Sugathadasa stadium.

The events to be conducted on these two days are Men and Women Open, Men and Women Novices, Veterans men and women for age groups 35, 40, 45 and 50 and 30, 35, 40, 45 and 50.

CSF Sports Festival

The newly formed Civil Security Force to add muscle to the three Armed Forces during the liberation war in the past is to given the full recognition by holding a sports festival for all 18 divisions spread over the country.

The meet which is the inaugural meet will be made an annual event in the future.

The meet scheduled for September 20 and 21 will be participated by over 1,500 competitors from both mens and women at Sugathadasa Stadium. The opening ceremony is scheduled for 7.00 a.m. on Saturday.
