Pedalling for a cause : The Defence Ministry Seva Vanitha Unit on the initiative of its President Anoma Rajapaksa launched a special fee levying pedal boat hire service in the Beira Lake in Colombo at a ceremony held near the Hunupitya Gangaramaya yesterday. Nearly 10,000 Vanni IDP children including 160 ex-child soldiers will sit for the GCE Ordinary Level examination in December, marking a significant increase in the number of candidates sitting this examination after clearing the area of LTTE rule.

There are about 250,000 IDPs in welfare villages and centres.
