Sri Lankasports.com Netball Challenge in December

After a successful completion of the third "Sri Lanka Sports.com" Netball Challenge - Inter company Netball Championship, SportsLine Marketing (Pvt) Limited planning to stage yet another fascinating tournament for the year 2008 on 19th December 2009 at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium.

This time it will be a one day tournament and participating teams have been limited to 12 female teams in order to give competitiveness to the event. There is a new addition to the event as the organisers made arrangements to introduce a mixed event and four teams will be entertained under this category.

With the Blessing of the Netball Federation of Sri Lanka and the Mercantile Netball Association "Sri Lanka Sports Netball Challenge" will be played once again on the innovative format introduced by the SportsLine Marketing (Pvt) Limited. The technical assistance will be provided by the Academy of Netball Kotte. Former Director of National Institute of Sports Science, Yogananda Wijesundara will be the tournament referee for the event.

The defending Champions Seylan Bank retained the Sri Lankasports.com Netball Challenge for the second consecutive year when they beat Commercial Bank 35 goals to 10 at the finals of the Cup Championship.

The Plate Championship was won by Ceylinco Group beating David Pieris Motor Company at a evenly contested final (24 goals to 19). HSBC took away the Bowl championship after beating Ceylon Biscuits Limited in the Bowl final by 23 goals to 10 in the finals. Shield Championship went to Janashakthi Insurance when they beat Sri Lanka Insurance by 22 goals to 10. The losers of all Championship finals walked away with the runner up trophy in respective championships. All players received a certificate of participation.

This tournament has inaugurated in the year 2006 and acclaimed as one of the best Netball Tournaments staged in Sri Lanka and went in to history as the first ever inter company netball tournament completely conducted in an indoor stadium when it was held in 2007.
