Kandy Municipal Sports Club table tennis champions

Kandy Municipal Sports Club swept the board at the annual State
Services Table Tennis Championship organized by the Sri Lanka State
Services Table Tennis Association and worked off at the Fisheries
Corporation Complex at Ambalangoda.
Kandy Municipal Council Sports Club successfully defending the Mens
'A' Division for the seventh successive year and in addition to they
also won the 'B' Division and 'D' Division titles to complete their mega
performance.
Kandy Municipal Council Sports Club dominated this all island
championship to such an extent that in some of the finals, they found
their own paddlers meeting in the finals. They also annexed both the
championship and the runner up berths in the Mens 'D' Division.
Mayor of Kandy L.B. Aluwihare, a sportsman himself having played for
Vidyartha College was a happy man and said that the paddlers from the
Kandy Municipal Council have brought honour again to the hill capital by
winning three major titles at table tennis.
This is evidence of the hard work put in by the Head of the
Playgrounds Department and former Sri Lanka national hockey player Kelum
Shanthasiri and his playground Instructors and Sunil Abeygunawardena.
Kandy Municipal Playgrounds Department has over 25 Community Centres
in which table tennis could be played and a large number of students and
as well as adults make use of the facilities available here.
