Remarkable feat by Sajeev de Silva

Sajeev de Silva the reputed oarsman from S. Thomas College put up an
extraordinary performances at the National Rowing Championships held at
the Bolgoda Lake winning seven gold medals. Sajeev became the first
person in Sri Lankan rowing history to achieve this great feat.
It's a unique achievement by the young Thomian.

He rowed elegantly and sailed through the waters perfectly and
smoothly to win the open sculls, open fours, open doubles sculls, under
19 sculls, under 19 fours, under 19 double sculls in a 2000 metre course
for the first time.
Sajeev also won the School Boy's Sculler award showing his prowess
rowing in perfect style.
He beat his team mate Dhanushka Jayanetti by a stroke.
Actually this year's nationals belongs to Sajeev for his remarkable
feat and his large contribution helped S. Thomas College to emerge men's
national champions.
The Thomian senior four comprising Eshan Goonawardena, Sajeev de
Silva, Dhanushka Jayanetti and Ruven Weerasinghe won the prestigious
senior four event with good time of 7.22 secs. beating the experienced
Sri Lanka Navy and Sri Lanka Air Force crews.
Meanwhile the open women's under 19 categories were won by Ladies
College while Ladies College and Bishops Colleges shared the under 16
age group title due to an equal points. University of Colombo won the
Overall under 19 category.
The event which was held for the first time at Bolgoda Lake was
sponsored by Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel and conducted by the Amateur
Rowing Association of Sri Lanka, headed by Rohan Fernando President of
ARASL. |
