Richmond in command

Richmond College, Galle, were in a commanding position at the end of the first day’s play in their schools under-19 division one cricket tournament match against Kingswood College which commenced at the University grounds, Peradeniya yesterday. The match will be continued today at 9.30 a.m.

Medium pacer Himesh Amarasuriya 5 for 26 and off spinner Dananjaya de Silva 4 for 27 in a deadly pace-spin combination routed the Kingswoodians for a paltry 78 on a wicket which helped bowlers.

At close, the Richmondites had replied with 150 for 7 and an early declaration this morning cold put them in sight of victory if the Kingswoodians put up another weak-kneed batting display.

Kingswood College 78 all out in 39.5 overs (I. K. Rabel 18, T. Gannoruwa 12, Dananjaya de Silva 4 for 27, Himesh Amarasuriya 5 for 26).

Richmond College 150 for 7 off 48 overs at close (Himesh Amarasuriya 20, Kushal Prabodha 29, Dananjaya de Silva 34, Charith Priyadharshana 23 n.o., Diliepa Priyadharshana 12 n.o., Udara Hettige 4 for 33, L. P. Gannoruwa 3 for 36).
