United National Party leader Ranil Wickremesinghe said at a function
held at the E. L. Senanayake Library Auditorium, Kandy yesterday that he
will leave no room for anybody from inside or outside the party to place
obstacles in the party's forward march and added that strict discipline
will be enforced against such elements in the party.
This function was organized to mark the 63rd anniversary of the party
yesterday (6/9).
"The UNP has a difficult road to travel. It won't be long before the
people come out and ask the UNP to come forward to develop the country
and protect them, he said.
"D. S. Senanayake, after Independence, strengthened the freedom of
the country and its people by establishing the UNP. Both in Opposition
as well as a Government, the UNP discharged its duties for the country,"
he said.
Deputy Leader Karu Jayasuriya, Parliamentarians Tissa Attanayake,
Rukman Senanayake, Gamini Jayawickrema Perera, S. B. Dissanayake and
