Vehicle theft on pretext of leasing bared

Police which have stumbled on a large scale vehicle theft operation have arrested four suspects together with two vehicles.

According to the modus operandi the suspects obtain vehicles on lease by producing forged IDs, Driving Licences and other documents and later sell them at a reduced cost.

The racket was bared following police investigations into a case of default reported from a vehicle leasing centre at Katugastota.

Police said the documents forwarded to this Centre to obtain vehicles on lease have either been stolen or forged.

They also say the vehicles were obtained on the pretext of using them for pleasure journeys and later disposed to third parties for a reduced sum.
