Two cops caught in the act

Bribery Sleuths has taken two Police constables to task for allegedly
soliciting a bribe from a driver of a lorry transporting sand.
The Constables had been taken into custody on Friday evening while
accepting a part of the bribe which was solicited with the promise of
foregoing an official inquiry into an alleged traffic offence made by
the driver.
According to the Acting Investigations Director of the Commission to
Investigate Allegations of Bribery and Corruption, Sarath Lokuge, the
two Constables attached to the Mirihana Police Station had been taken
into custody while accepting a part of the solicited amount around 7.45
pm on Friday evening at Delkanda junction.
The two constables first had solicited a bribe of Rs. 2,000 for
foregoing legal action subsequent to finding that the said driver did
not possess authority to transport sand on the particular route. He was
also accused of blocking the traffic. Lokuge said that Sleuths had
arrested the constables, while accepting a part of the bribe which was
Rs.1,000. The two Constables would be produced before Courts, Lokuge
added. |
