More buses for rural Hambantota

Transport Minister Dullas Alahapperuma will launch 18 new bus services to meet the transport needs of the rural population living in the Hambantota district under the Gemi Siriya project.

Eighteen new buses will be provided to the Ambalantota, Tangalle and Kataragama depots at a function to be held under the patronage of Transport Minister Dullas Alahapperuma, at the Breeze Inn, Ambalantota at 10.00 a.m. today.

These buses will be deployed on 18 routes in the Hambantota district.

Under the theme 'One bus for one village', social and economic needs of the rural commuters of many villages in Hambantota where a proper transport system was not operated earlier, will be fulfilled through this project.

The project is carried out by the Transport Ministry with the assistance of the National Transport Commission. This meets the transport needs of the rural commuters living in villages where passenger transport services were not available.
