The National Zoo in Dehiwala recorded its highest number of visitors
ever on Sunday with a total of 28,365 persons visiting the Zoo during
the course of the day.
The income generated stood at Rs. 2,275,425 at the end of the day.
Sunday's record number of visitors also broke the previous record set
earlier this month, for the most number of visitors in one day.
The previous record of 25,500 persons which generated an income of Rs.
2,088,270 for the Zoo was on August 16.
Commenting on the growing number of visitors, National Zoological
Department, Director, Duminda Jayarathne said during the past two
months, the Zoo had recorded a steady increase of visitors.
He also attributed the growth in numbers to the peaceful atmosphere
in the country at present.
"Ever since the nearly three decade old conflict ended, we have
recorded a large number of visitors and the numbers have been growing by
the day," he said.
"To cater to the growing number of visitors we are in the process of
making certain new changes to the Zoo to make it more attractive and
comfortable to the visitors," Jayarathne said. |
