Schools shuttle C'ships for AVI Trophy

The Sri Lanka Schools Badminton Association organised tournament for the year 2009 has reached its final stage. The early stages of the tourney was completed at District and Provincial level. Eighteen Districts completed during the last two months, and the finalists have been found in five different age groups under 11, 13, 15, 17 and 19 boys and girls.

The opening ceremony for the final stage will be conducted at S. Thomas' College Indoor Stadium in Mount Lavinia on August 26 at 8.00 a.m., and the final day August 30 it will be at Royal College Sports Complex at Reid Avenue at 3.00 p.m.

Matches are scheduled to be played at four venues, Royal College Sports Complex, under 15, Boys and Girls singles and doubles, Under 17 Boys singles and doubles, S. Thomas' Mount Lavinia, under 11 Boys and Girls singles/doubles, under 13 Boys and Girls singles/doubles, Musaeus College.

Under 19 Girls singles/doubles, under 17 Girls singles/doubles and at Nalanda College under 19 Boys singles/doubles.

Over 4000 shuttlers from 163 schools participated this which is a remarkable increase compared to the two previous years.

The tournament is sponsored by DSI Group of Companies which takes greater participation in sponsoring schools sports which is the stepping stone for young sportsmen and women to enter the national arena.

Its commitment towards schools Volleyball tournament during the past eleven years has brought in great success for the sport.

Their involvement here too is with the same intention.

The schools will feed the senior pools. So it has became a must to support the school sport, says R. Nugaliadde Managing Director DSI Group of Companies.
