TRCSL seeks:
Expertise on pornsite crackdown

The Telecommunication Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL) at a
meeting scheduled for next week will determine on how individuals and
institutions involved in uploading pornographic pictures and videos to
the internet could be tackled.
According to TRCSL Director General Priyantha Kariyapperuma, the
Commission will convene IT experts from the Colombo University and other
institutions specializing in IT, representatives of the Attorney
General’s Department and the law enforcement authorities to workout a
framework through which the individuals and institutions involved in
uploading pornographic material to the internet could be apprehended.
“In compliance with the court order, we have already informed
internet service providers to bar pornographic sites and a number of
such sites have already been identified and banned,” he said. He said
the Commission has sought public assistance to identify the origin of
porno sites and take legal action against the offenders.
He said the Commission has received a number of complaints about
individuals who are in the habit of downloading pornographic pictures
and videos involving Sri Lankans to the internet. |
