Two major upsets in under 16 rugby tourney

Two major upsets was the highlight on the first day of the All Island schools under 16 division one rugby tournament organised by the Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Football Association and sponsored by Milo which began at the Bogambara stadium in Kandy yesterday.

The quarter final matches are expected to be played this morning commencing at 8.30 a.m.

The first upset of the day was in the second match when Science College Mount Lavinia beat the more fancied Trinity College 10-5 after leading 5-0 at lemons.

A bigger upset followed when the lesser known C. W. W. Kannangara Vidyalaya stunned Kingswood College with a 5-0 win. Another defeat followed the Kingswoodians when they lost to Isipatana College 5-7. Kingswoodians could have snatched victory in this match when an attempted drop goal struck the uprights and rebounded back to play.

With two defeats the Kingswoodians had to face the ignominy of being relegated to the Bowl championship.
