Kiwis gain valuable batting practice
The touring New Zealand team had some valuable batting practice ahead
of the first Test in Galle as their three day warm up match against the
Sri Lanka Cricket Development XI ended in a draw at the NCC ground in
Maitland Place yesterday.
The Kiwis batted almost the entire third and final day to reach 240
for 6 in their second innings with middle order batsman Ross Taylor
stroking a fluent half century with the help of two sixes and half a
dozen boundaries. In addition, skipper Daniel Vettori and all rounder
Jacob Oram also impressed with the bat with the pair putting on 55 runs
for the unfinished seventh wicket.
Opening bowler Dhammika Prasad, Suraj Randiv and Seekuge Prasanna
captured two wickets each for the home side.
New Zealand are scheduled to play two Test matches against Sri Lanka
with the first Test starting on Tuesday at the Galle International
Stadium.
