India's Independence day:
Nearly 3,000 Lankans

Nearly three thousand Sri Lankans now in India on Buddhist pilgrimage
will today observe India's Independence Day by participating in
celebrations in Buddha Gaya, Saranath, Kushinagar, Vaishali, Sravasti,
Chennai, Sanchi and Lumbini in Nepal. The celebrations commence with the
hoisting of the Indian National Flag, Tri-colour and singing the
National Anthem 'Jana-gana-mana-adhinayaka' followed by speeches of Sri
Lankan Buddhist monks from different centres and senior Indian
government officers.
